Dwarfs in giant’s robes (Edited )
There was , I think there is still, a debate whether Sri Lanka is a Buddhist country.
Constitutionally it is. May be many heads in this country are Buddhist by
descend. Some people in the meantime argue the fact that ours is a Buddhist
country should not be over sponsored and over emphasized. However, the number
of people or the population in a country has been a decisive
factor in assigning the religious tags to the territory which I think is political.
To be compassionate to everyone
in the world irrespective of all divisions made subsequently after the origin
of species is fundamental in Buddhism. This, in other words, is love in Catholicism,
Brotherhood in Islam and Dharma in
Hinduism. This is ideal and sublime as a concept. In all communities, strong measures are taken
to propagate, popularize and perpetuate their respective religion in each
investing time and money. Robust rituals are practiced, perhaps, to transmit
the tag to the progeny. Unfortunately there appears to be a negative
correlation between the efforts taken to consolidate religions and the moral
development of the followers. It is timely and good to investigate into the
reasons for this negative correlation. People by nature are beastly driven by
beastly instincts and resort to their inherent bestial instincts breaking the
imposed barriers of moral education which is not in conformity with the norm of
survival of the fittest.
Setting good examples by the
leadership of any country by being honest, transparent adhering to the code of ethics in each
religion is the foundation for making a just society where people too would be corporate
with the state.
Time to wait and review if our
leaders had been and are truly religious in their conduct by incorporating
values expounded in religions. Instances, however, are more to prove otherwise.
Political leaders ,with the
exception of a few ,entertain and nurture thugs and hooligans to curb or to
eliminate whoever smart, bold and daring enough to challenge their existence.
Gunadasa Liyanage writing the biography of Professor Walpola Rahula thero writes
an instance where JR had employed thugs
to assault the thero . Professor Srachchandra who had protested JR’s “Just
Society” too was assaulted; it is said, by thugs.
Richard de Zoysa writing a poem “ Gajagawannama” traces how
the UNP regime unleashed violence against Tamils in 1983. “Birds,Beast and
Relatives” by the same poet traces state
sponsored election violence . Eventually Richard was kidnapped and killed by an
unidentified gunman .Keith Noir the journalist was abducted and tortured,
Lasantha Wickramathunga was killed in the broad daylight Thajudeen
the sportsman was burned alive .Setting fire to the Jaffna University library too is a heinous crime in the history
of Sri Lanka. It was done. Who did was a mystery.
Wayamba provincial Council
election in 1999 is recorded to be the most corrupted election in Sri
Lanka. It is obviously is a state
sponsored crime committed under the leadership of the leadership of the
country.
The bond scam in 2020 and the sugar fraud in 2021 are indications of
the abuse of public money. These acts cannot be accidents or mistakes but are well-designed
crimes with political motives.
Then comes the Covid related
frauds and malpractices during the Covid Pandemic. It is apparent that the leaders have risked lives of innocent people by being so irresponsible in managing the Covid
issue during its 2nd and 3rd waves.Medical and
administrative experts who had assisted
the administration in managing the first and the second Covid waves were either
transferred from their service stations or assigned roles in fields that they
are not competent. The motive behind
such practices, it is revealed, is political.
The vaccination process too was not free from
the family bandism, nepotism and favouritism found in all institutions. Politicos, who thrive on the voters, it is
said, got their longevity ensured by getting the vaccination first, sometimes,
by foul means.
A lot of instances are recorded
where politicians are involved in bribery and corruption. Cases are filed
.Court proceedings proceed. Influential politicians, eventually, are acquitted
and released. Power politics undermines judiciary. The clergy in all sectors
appear to be sacrilegious. They seem to be doing everything other than what
they are entrusted with.
Thus codes of ethic in all
religions are violated collaboratively by the very people who are supposed to
conform them.
It's really a genuine hartfelt perception. You have revealed that the Pen is mightier than the Sword.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead Dr. Kularathne. It's hightime erudites revealed their candid opinions. Good Luck!
