  Are we too immature to be civilized by .... ........ Yet another Wesak day is over. People couldn’t enjoy Wesak as they used to do.   Huge pandals were erected in cities and the suburb, alms halls inviting people to eat and drink free of charge,   and  visiting temples in faraway cities in lorries and tractors were  not to  be seen .     The crisis that the country suffers now has robbed of the happiness associated with the festival.  Words have lost their meaning. Wesak too is not an exception. Wesak  is to commemorate not only the birth , the   enlightenment and the passing away of Lord Buddha  but also to revisit the code of conduct that his philosophy communicates. We,as Sri Lankans, appear to be immature in understanding what the Buddha has taught, for we haven’t yet been able to renounce primitive thoughts that we nurture with zest.   Frugality is a value shared in Buddhism .
